It’s March, and I’m on a Lufthansa Airbus at 31,000 feet out of Edinburgh. Is it really twelve months since I last visited the Frankfurt world fair for musical instruments – the Musikmesse? Apparently so…
I love to keep up to date with what’s going on in the world of musical instruments (particularly pianos, of course.) This means I can keep my customers advised of latest developments and help them to make a better and more informed decision when buying a piano.
I also love the personal side of the business – meeting my contacts from the various piano companies we deal with. Many of these contacts have become good friends over the years.
The German manufacturers of acoustic pianos have recently taken the decision to exhibit every two years, the last such occasion being March 2012. Not a great deal changes in the space of twelve months in the piano world, and it’s an extremely expensive business to take even a small stand. On balance, I think the arrangement works well, and I don’t think they will be moving back to exhibiting annually any time soon.
With a gin & tonic in hand though, I’m not going to worry too much about the down-side to Frankfurt. The world is looking pretty good from up here, and I’m going to make the most of it. I’ll be making an actual report from the fair, so watch this space…
